About boudimedi.fr

boudimedi.fr is a freelance medical & veterinary communications service established in 2021. I am Louisa Marcombes MA VetMB MRCVS, with a background of 20 years' of veterinary clinical experience and the medical communications professional behind boudimedi.fr. The boudimedi.fr ethos is that all medical communications, in whatever format and to whichever audience, are delivered in a crystal-clear and logical style that keeps the end-user interested and engaged.  Paying careful attention to how information is presented and reducing the work that the reader has to do to process the information results in a better understanding and retention of the intended message.

The hallmark of the writing services provided by boudimedi.fr is an easy-to-read, lean, lucid writing style with a clear narrative at its heart. I take a strictly evidence-based approach to present the facts and ensure the accuracy of the content is watertight and unambiguous. Where appropriate, I take a critical approach to subject areas where the evidence base is equivocal.

The domain of Medical Communications is evolving. Medical publications are increasingly adopting alternative formats to the traditional text-based approach. The increasing popularity of the use of infographics and graphical abstracts is an excellent example of this trend. I have a special interest in using graphics to present data core message communication and finding innovative ways of achieving this.

Whether you require written content, graphical content, or both, if you require a freelance contractor who is able to work independently or collaborate with an existing team, do not hesitate to get in touch to discuss your requirements.

I have been a freelance medical communications professional since 2020. I am originally from the UK and am now based in Auvergne, central France. The moniker boudimedi.fr is taken from and inspired by my adoptive home. I qualified in the UK from Cambridge University in 2001 with a degree in Veterinary Medicine. I then spent 20 years in first opinion small animal practice in the UK, including five years at the first opinion teaching hospital at the Royal Veterinary College, London.

My experience in clinical veterinary practice lends to my Medical Writing a highly patient-focused approach, with an understanding of the importance of precision medicine. Furthermore, my direct experience working in multi-disciplinary clinical settings gives me an insight into both factors which facilitate and obstruct the delivery of gold-standard practice, which confers authenticity to my work.

Over two decades of veterinary first-opinion practice has provided me with direct case management and decision-making in the clinical practice in a diverse range of clinical fields, including cardiology, oncology, ophthalmology, orthopaedics, soft tissue, minimally invasive surgery, imaging endocrinology, dermatology, rheumatology and anaesthesia. My veterinary background also confers in my work One Health and comparative medicine perspective, the future of a sustainable medical domain.

I am a current member of the European Medical Writer's Association (EMWA).  I have been editor of the veterinary section of Medical Writing journal since June 2021 and provide a graphics service to the EMWA membership as part of the association's Graphics team. I am also a journal reviewer for INFocus, the online journal watch for the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons.

Graphic Medicine - the use of a comic-style graphics format to communicate biomedical information - is increasingly being used by healthcare professionals for patient care, medical education and reporting medical and veterinary data in a social or political context (see above example). Using pictures with the written word increases attention to and recall of health information. Most importantly, it can help improve understanding of the core message for both a lay and professional audience.
